From Minds Behind De La Guarda, Fuerzabruta Arrives Off-B'way in October

Fuerzabruta is next up at off-Broadway's Daryl Roth Theatre. A new extravaganza from some of the creators of the long-running De La Guarda, the show will start a limited engagement at the venue on October 11, with an opening set for October 24.

Meaning "brute force," Fuerzabruta is another in the line of non-conventional theatrical ventures that have become staples on the off-Broadway scene. According to the press release announcing the show: "Fuerzabruta breaks free from the confines of spoken language and theatrical convention… Both performers and audience are immersed in an environment that floods the senses, evoking pure visceral emotion in a place where individual imagination soars… Set in vigorous motion, the effects are stunning—a man runs full throttle through a series of moving walls, individuals race to connect from opposite sides of a whirling sail and performers frolic and interact in a watery world suspended just above the audience."

Fuerzabruta premiered in Buenos Aires in 2005 and has been seen in Lisbon, London, Buenos Aires, Bogota and is set to appear in the Ediburgh Fringe Festival, Berlin and Hamburg.

The show was created by De La Guarda co-founder and co-creator Diqui James, De La Guarda composer and musical director Gaby Kerpel, De La Guarda technical director Alejandro Garcia and De La Guarda production supervisor Fabio Daquila.

Fuerzabruta is scheduled to run for 18 weeks, through February 17, 2008.
